100 years of infrared photography

Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of Professor Robert Williams Wood’s lecture ‘Photography by Invisible Rays’ to the Royal Photographic Society in London. (always late, me!). (more details on infrared100.) This was at a time when most photographic emulsions, still on glass plates, were sensitive only to blue light.
The occasion will be marked by an exhibition of infrared photography, from its early days through to the present, at the current headquarters of the Royal Photographic Society in Bath. The exhibition will be open to the public through most of October (details). I’m delighted to say one of my infrared images from 2001 is included in the exhibition.

Vernon Mill Artists – annual Open Studio event

The Vernon Mill Artists occupy studios on the 3rd and 4th floors of a former cotton spinning mill in Stockport (NorthWest UK). They are one of the largest artist-led studio groups in England, with over 40 artists over the two floors (and have new studios being readied for occupancy).

The annual Open Studio Event will this year be in October. The Preview Evening is Friday 1st Oct. 7-10pm, and the studios will be open for the weekends of 2nd/3rd and 9th/10th October 10am-4pm. There will be a wide variety of art on show and for sale, and you will be able to talk to the artists in the studios and see them at work.
